The UB: The Reunion

May 29, 2008: The wait is over.
After nearly 10 years, the UB had a tremendously successful reunion show on Thursday May 29, 2008 at the Canal Room. Don't say that the Internet never did anything for you, because you can listen to the whole show! For you UB wonks, there's also the official evite for the show. Word from the band is that they may do another.

If you were on UB's USMailing list, you probably received a postcard about their latest event. UB gave us refined arrangements of some standard tunes and even broke out some stuff that I haven't heard before. It's all got the great UB sound, and about one-third of the way through the show, they were really in high-gear.

Strong finishes have always been a trademark of the band, but the fans don't care - they always want more. Tonight was no exception as the crowd demanded two encores. The first was a great rendition of Peacetrain, a cut from their "From the Westside to the Eastside" cassette. The second encore? Sadly, I have to tell you that I don't know what it was. My date was too tired and needed to head home. Yeah, it was after 2 a.m., but this is the Blight. She obviously didn't understand, but never fear - she gets it now, and next time we'll stick it out.

If you weren't reading the local newspapers (like The Village Voice) closely enough, you would have missed their benefit concert. I guess I wasn't, so I don't have anything to report about the show.
November, 1997: Tramps, NYC
After a 2 year hiatus, UB appeared in public for a 2+ hour performance by the original Magic 6. The tunes featured a set of their standards, plus a revival of a number of songs that long-time fans haven't heard in years. Shinehead popped up on stage to close out the show for some impromptu reggae jams.
